American Dream
I’ve got two dollars in my pocket
To buy my last meal of the day
It was cold and raining outside
It was almost the first of May
And I was feeling in a bind ‘cause
I was running out of time
It felt as though I was slipping away
It was just a dream anyway
I need a job to pay the rent
And the money I’ve already spent
I’m walking on a hair-thin line
To make it mine and
I take more chances every day
Thinking I’ll make it to the top some way
It’s the longest road I’ve ever seen
It’s the longest dream that I’ve ever dreamed
I read all the books that I can
To help me with my plan
To make a living, playing guitar and
To get me out of this smoky bar
I feel like I’m in the lost and found
Looking for something to turn me around
I don’t know what I’m going to find but
I’ll keep searching ‘til the end of time
I need a job to pay the rent
And the money I’ve already spent
I’m walking on a hair-thin line
To make it mine and
I take more chances every day
Thinking I’ll make it to the top some day
It’s the longest road I’ve ever seen
It’s called the American Dream
